The Central Government constituted an Expert Committee for review of the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995. The Expert Committee considered the various demands of pensioners including enhancement of pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995. The Expert Committee has submitted its report to the Central Government on 05.08.2010 and recommendations are presently under examination/consideration of the Central Board of Trustees of the Employees Provident Fund Organization.
This information was given by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister for Labour And Employment in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
Employees who after more than 30 years of service retired in the year 2000 with a salary of 20,000 or more PM , are only getting Rs. 600 PM or so as EPS pension. Even this pension amount remains unchanged through out the life, since it is not linked to any price index, unlike other Govt. pensions. Naturally in the absence of any other source of income, the life of the retirees have become miserable. Such an attitude of apathy of the Govt. towards the retirees, who have contributed lakh crores of rupees, now lying un-used in Provident Fund Account, is very disgusting. EPF organization has built up a huge empire of 3 lacs crores of Rupees from the contributions of employees as by Business Line dated 01-08-2010. Naturally retired employees fully deserve enhanced minimum EPS pension of Rs. 5000 PM. Linked with price index.
