Punjab scraps exams after ETT paper leak


The Punjab Government today scrapped the ongoing Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) examinations, that had commenced on April 29, following paper leak.

Punjab Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan ordered scrapping of the papers, an official release said here.

The Minister took the step after someone brought to his notice that ETT question papers were available to some candidates much before the scheduled examination time.

The release said the Minister had noticed that the question paper of ETT exam to be held on May 11 at 2 pm was available with some students in the morning itself.

Similarly, the question paper of examination to be held today in the afternoon was available with the students hours before its commencement.

Sekhwan has asked Sanjay Popli, Additional Secretary Education, to hold an inquiry into the whole episode and register criminal case against those found guilty.

PTU to set up 12 new institutes


To impart training in multi-disciplinary technical courses, 12 new institutes will be opened by Punjab Technical University (PTU) here, a senior officer said.

"These institutes under the name of Punjab Institute of Technology will offer integrated multi-disciplinary technical courses in engineering, science, commerce and arts," PTU, Dean Academics, Buta Singh said here.

These institutes would be self-financed, he said.

Punjab announces 6 pc additional dearness allowance

The Punjab government has released 6 per cent Additional Dearness Allowance (ADA) installment with effect from January 1, 2011, on the Central government pattern to its employees and pensioners. According to an official notification here today, following this decision present 45 per cent dearness allowance would be increased to 51 per cent on the basic pay from January 1 this year. The government also decided to pay the increased DA in cash from May 1, whereas the arrears from January 1 this year to April 30 would be credited to their GPF Accounts. Retired Employees of the state Government would get the same in cash from January one this year, an official spokesperson said.

Punjab police To Train Girls for Security Agencies

Encouraged by recent deployment of women by Border Security Force (BSF), the Punjab Police has chalked out a special programme to train girls for employment in various security agencies.

An official spokesman today said DGP P S Gill had issued guidelines to provide equitable opportunities and professional training to women, in the forces to make them employable in various security services including police and para-military forces.

The DGP felt that there was an increasing demand for women recruits amongst the security agencies for deploying them as guards at various establishments including airports, hospitals and private educational institutions, and these agencies were not finding enough trained employable women.

The spokesman said the DGP had asked Punjab Security Training Institute (PSTI) operating from the complex of Police Recruitment Training Centre, Jehan Khelan (Hoshiarpur) to immediately come out with a course for women candidates.
